There's a woman in this book who pre-dated Madame C.J. Walker by 100 years, and yet had a conglomerate hair products company, right on these shores. Free women were teaching slaves to read, and how to comport themselves properly for the day when they, too, would be free. There's so much real history that's hidden, left out and disregarded, in order to maintain the status quo. This book peels all of that away. Everyone who wants to know the truth about Black women should read it. Dr. Hine has a great collection of work, and I'm sure she's not finished yet.

The book gives me the insights on African American women in history. These women were incredible in terms of courage and accomplishments. I was a bit tired of the amount of details this book has to offer.
